Climate Fiction
9 units (3-0-6)
|
first term
Climate change is a narrative as well as a planetary crisis-it transforms the stories we tell about our world. In this class, we will look at works of fiction that speculate on the shifting relationships between humans, society, and the environment, offering both hopeful and sobering possibilities. Through classic and more recent works of climate fiction, or cli-fi, we will explore the dynamics of resilience and vulnerability, hope and fear, that inform the contemporary environmental imagination. Expect readings from authors such as Ursula K. Le Guin, Ernest Callenbach, Octavia E. Butler, Amitav Ghosh, and Kim Stanley Robinson.
